Southern Coastal Charm of Charleston and Savanah

“Southern hospitality” is a phrase used in American English to describe residents of the Southern United States as particularly warm, sweet, and welcoming to visitors to their homes. This tour includes Charlotte (NC), Charleston (SC), Savannah (GA) and Mount Airy (NC) plus thirteen meals, with cities and dining that will truly show that “warm feeling” immediately as we arrive in each of them.

Charleston is the second largest city in South Carolina and originally was called Charles Towne, to honor Charles II of England, Scotland and Ireland. During late April we should be enjoying temperatures of 76 to 77 degrees.

We’ll be learning the history, seeing buildings and homes from the Antebellum and Postbellum eras, as well as enjoying a wonderful Southern-style. On our horse-drawn carriage tour, we will view exquisite antebellum structures, the Joseph Manigault House and a visit to Patriot’s Point for a tour on the USS Yorktown, a Navy aircraft carrier. Savannah’s history goes back to 1733 when it became the first city in the 13th, and final, American colony being named “Georgia”, to honor England’s King George II.

The beauty of the city was never as recognized as it was in 1862, when General Sherman entered the town after having burned the city of Atlanta, and everything else in his path, on the “March to the Sea”. He was so impressed with Savannah’s beauty he could not destroy it. Two years later, he sent a telegram to President Lincoln, giving him the city as a “Christmas present”. During our two-night stay in this southern city, we will enjoy a trolley tour, fabulous meals, a haunted tour, Dolphin Tour and a visit to the Mercer Williams House Museum. See our online description for additional inclusions.
